I'd like to say a great big thank you to Jake Oels and all of the folks who helped him lay out and mark this course. Despite the dry and dusty conditions this course was really well marked. There was a spot or two where you could have taken a wrong turn but there was a ribbons and markers to keep you on course. I really appreciate the hard work that went into your effort. It may have not been planned but having those stretches in the fields where you could get up speed and get airflow around the body actually kept me a little cooler. I liked the flow of the course a lot.
Also like to say thanks to the timing and scoring crew. MAD respect to sit there and eat dust for two hours. There is no way I can think of any other volunteer could be convinced to sit at that post and do that job. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I broke down but thanks to all the racers who checked on me out on course and the several who offered to send help. There were too many to name.
Thanks to my sponsors Vortex, Dunlop, Factory Connection, Cycle Gear and FMF for backing me up. I let them down this race by making a silly maintenance mistake that I hope won't happen again.
Finally thanks to AHSCS on the whole. The promoters, volunteers, directors and racers the competition is great out on the race and so is the camaraderie afterwards.

Thomkat - would you happen to have a photo of your catch bottle mounting place? It would help me a bunch thanks!

A catch bottle is too easy to make...I mount mine in the rear of the air box, but it could be mounted most anywhere. It doesn't have to hold but a couple of cups or more. Make one end of the bottle with an inlet hose coming from the rad overflow drain...then put a vent tube high and in the rear of the bottle....fill it up..and there you have it...... |

For what it's worth Shelby, I run a coolant recovery tank as my 300 likes to spew alot. This way I'm never down on fluid.
I'm sure they make one for the Kawi. |

Well guys I'm almost too embarrassed to admit but for the sake of learning from my mistake in the hope that someone else doesn't make the same one... I didn't check my coolant level before the race. The bike died mid-way on the 3rd lap. It wouldn't start which in hindsight turned out to be a blessing. I think the airflow I was getting in the fields kept me going as long as it did. After a half hour of cooling off the bike restarted and I returned to the pit. Nathan noticed the hose from the radiator was sucked completely flat. Glad I didn't burn the motor up. Nonetheless I had fun. |

I agree with Shelby Thanks to everyone helping put on the races.
Ya Shelby what happened.
As usual I got well in front of you on the hole shot.
As usual I see Green Kawi coming up behind me about a mile or two into the first lap. Very seldem after that.
As usual I let Shelby pass me (Knowing he is faster than me, well at least for now) LOL.
No so usual I pass you back about 2 miles later????? |
