I am here at work and guy come across the street from the gas station needing to use a welder on his bike. He was riding the trans-america trail(Which comes right by the shop where i work) on a honda xr 650 l and had a broken frame. As i was helping him fix the bike and talking to him i discovered he was from england and was attemping to ride around the world. He has been in america 9 months coming in from russia and ending his trip in oregon at the end of the trans america trail. He said he was going to miss south america because he was running low on money . Wonder if there is a good way to help him out?
I live on a road that shares the TAT also. Over the last five years the number of D/S bikes has grown big time. Many say the Arkansas piece of the TAT is way better than what is east of the Mississippi.
Maybe I should open up a TAT info/repair shop!

The fender support part of the XR650L frame doesn't like lots of weight on it. I have one of those beasts.
Oh to be young again and head out on a ride like that. Never had the nerve when I had nothing to lose.
What would the perfect TAT store stock? Common wear items for the wide variety of bikes ridden alone would be some overhead. It would have to be tied into a place as a sideline, like a hamburger joint or canoe rental place. A few decent spots to pitch a tent and a real shower building. It could fly if the owner got a reputation with the adv crowd.
Instead of B over 40, why not B over 240. Scales right on the starting line. Call it B+ or BBM.
That would be the part we had to repair. Right where the pannier rack mounts
Only stock common need items like tires, tubes,oil... Have a place where they can work on there bikes. Also a drop point where riders can have there parts shipped to and pick them up when they come through.
Yes tie it into some other type of business, i would want the tat shop more to help riders out than turn a profit. I have a shop place in mind but still gotta talk boss man into it. Thot about this along time but this guy fueled the fire again.
